Custom Colour - Colour-matching

We love when our customers are as passionate about colour as us and have their own colour they specifically want. We employ all of our years of experience to write a unique colour recipe for you. This process has several stages: Firstly, 75% of the colour recipe is applied to the fabric. A small area is then dried and the colour is checked. Often, adjustments to the yellow, red and blue component of the recipe is made to hone in on the exact tone required. We add these small adjustments slowly to ensure the best colour match. So, as you can imagine, this is a very time-consuming service. For the best result when colour-matching, choose a base white, single fibre fabric such as silk, wool, polyester, viscose rayon or cotton and allow plenty of time for us to work on it. Talk to us about your ideas for fabrics and garments before purchasing them if possible.

What do we match to? We need a physical copy of the sample you want us to match to. Why? Well, colours are different depending on where they are being perceived - think of the classic ‘Blue dress/Gold dress conundrum', was it blue and black or gold and white… Light and environmental colour influence colour perception considerably! Likewise, if we get a colour digitally, say by email, screen colour is different across devices and changes the tones of colours dramatically. We do everything we can to minimise these variations. Our dyehouse is fitted with light-adjusted globes, and every stage of shading is checked for it to match both inside and outside to compare in different lights. Due to this variability, we offer for customers to take their matched items home - particularly for lounge covers, bedspreads and curtains - to see how the colour looks in their lighting. If it needs more shading we will happily shade it some more to get the best possible match.

Jackets and coats: 90% of internal linings and shell fabrics of jackets and coats have raw fabric edges. We over-lock (secure) these seams before dyeing, so they will not fray open whilst in water. This is an additional cost of $15 – $25. We do NOT recommend dyeing articles when seams are unsecured.

The cost of colour matching is the price of Tailored Tints, plus a surcharge of $110 for your unique recipe, as well as the sweat and tears that go into achieving your perfect match.

PLEASE NOTE: we do not refund or replace dyed items or any accessories. Our consultants are only too happy to discuss any concerns with you before you go ahead with your order.
